Student Safety at Montclair Academy

At Montclair, the safety of children and adults is our first priority. The entire campus is contained within a chain-link fence with access only through gates which are locked at all times except for drop-off/pick-up and specific deliveries. Whenever the gates are open, they are supervised by Montclair personnel.

All doors of all buildings are locked throughout the day. Visitors must sign in at the front desk and must wear a visitors’ badge. Faculty and staff are encouraged to challenge anyone they do not recognize who is not wearing an identification badge. Each door is equipped with a doorbell if someone should be locked out.

Specific drills are in place for fire, lock-down, and tornado warnings. We practice them throughout the year. Evacuation maps are placed in every classroom with a Plan A” and a “Plan B” in case an exit is blocked. In the case of a need to evacuate the entire campus, we have a reciprocal relationship with a nearby school.
