Social Studies Curriculum
Social Studies promotes the development of thoughtful, humane and analytical citizens who are capable of making appropriate personal and community
decisions. The curriculum provides a framework in which students form generalizations and concepts about human beings and human systems and apply them to a world in continual flux. The curriculum focuses at the early elementary grades on the self, family and community and then moves on to more topical studies such as Colorado history, U.S. history, geography, ancient and world history, and major issues in American development. A major strand of the curriculum is educating students about the diversity of cultures and races around the world, with the goal of promoting sensitivity towards and acceptance of people with vast differences and numerable similarities.
