Our place in the world
Consistent with the principles of the progressive educational tradition, Montclair Academy provides a structured, well-rounded academic, artistic and athletic program that prepares students for high school, college and beyond. The school believes that students learn best when they receive a solid foundation in all curricular areas and when they are able to see the relevance and meaning of what they are learning. Therefore, structured classroom approaches, as well as hands-on, active learning experiences, are employed as effective methods of instruction. Learning how to learn, problem solving and critical and creative modes of thinking are incorporated by teachers to prepare students for a lifetime of learning.
Montclair Academy fosters the school, home and community partnership to enhance the educational experience of each student. Families help cultivate the desire to learn, encourage the development of good learning habits, morals and social manners. The school supports these habits of good character through its curriculum and programs and encourages parental involvement in the learning process. Home and school together assist students in learning to make appropriate choices and in developing the academic competencies and the self-confidence needed to be successful. School and home work in consort to bring the community beyond Montclair Academy into the educational process by providing opportunities for our students to learn within and take an active role in the world beyond the school walls.
Maintaining and building a community which values mutual support and respect for diversity within the school is of significant importance at Montclair Academy. Because Montclair Academy recognizes the strength of pluralism and diversity in society and our school community, the school is committed to ethnic and cultural diversity in
our school population, multicultural education and fostering respect and understanding for people and experiences of diverse cultures. Montclair Academy strives to provide a safe, friendly, warm and caring environment in which parents, students, faculty, staff and administration feel appreciated, known and valued.
A Montclair Academy education helps students acquire the skills, habits and abilities to participate successfully in the present and future world, fosters the value of and joy in learning and encourages the development of well-rounded, respectful and responsible young citizens of the world.
