School Leadership
Board of Trustees As a 501(C3) non-profit corporation, Montclair Academy is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of current parents, neighborhood leaders, and others who bring their time, talent, and treasure to the governance of the school. The responsibilities of the Board are to plan, develop and establish broad policy for the school; to be responsible for the school’s financial health and well-being and physical plant; and to select and evaluate the Head of School. The Board consists of up to seventeen voting members and two ex-officio members--the Head of School and the Business Manager. The term of each voting member is three years. Trustees may serve two successive three year terms.
Head of School Esther Tipton is the Head of School. She manages and leads the day-to-day operation of the school, which includes serving as the educational leader, working closely with the Board of Trustees, and hiring and supervision of all faculty and staff. The Head of School is supported by the Business Manager, the Dean of Students, and the Office Manager.
Association of Montclair Academy Parents The Association (AMAP) was organized in 1997. AMAP provides many opportunities for volunteering and building school community. The organization coordinates volunteers for the teacher appreciation committee, room parents, clerical support and a variety of other activities to support the school. AMAP manages Montclair’s fundraising activities which help support various priorities, including a “wish list” for teachers. These include Sally Foster Gift Wrap and grocery coupon sales. All parents are considered members of the association and are encouraged to participate in AMAP activities in support of the school.
