Montclair Academy Preschool Daily Schedule
8:15-8:45 a.m. Arrival/Greeting Time
Parents will have the opportunity to connect with the teachers as they drop off their children and get them settled. Children will have the opportunity to work at tables using manipulatives and other table toys until all the children arrive or it is 8:45 a.m.
8:45-9:00 a.m. Opening Group Time/Planning Time
Children and teachers will gather together in the large group area to greet one another, sing songs and read and discuss the story for the day. Teachers will then share with the children what their choices of activities are for Work Time and help each child plan what activity he/she will start with at Work Time.
9:00-10:00 a.m. Work Time
Children will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities set up throughout the classroom in the following areas: art, block, manipulative, dramatic play, cozy corner, water/sand table, and science. Teachers will move throughout the classroom, observing and working with the children, facilitating their learning as they explore, discover, manipulate and play.
10:00-10:10 a.m. Clean-up Time
Children and teachers will work together to clean up the classroom, returning materials and equipment to their storage spaces.
10:10-10:30 a.m. Snack/Recall Time
Children and teachers will sit at tables together to enjoy conversation and a mid-morning snack. Teachers will facilitate discussion with the children about what they did during Work Time.
10:30-11:00 a.m. Outdoor Time
Children and teachers will go outside for fresh air and exercise. When they go to the playground, they will have the opportunity to ride tricycles, to throw, catch and kick balls, and to play in the sand. When they go to the soccer field, they will have the opportunity to throw, catch, and kick balls and to play group games. In inclement weather, the children and teachers will be able to go to the Rumpus Room for large motor activity during Outdoor Time.
11:00-11:30 a.m. Closing Group Time/Song and Story Circle
Children and teachers will gather together in the large group area to talk about what happened at school that day and what will be happening at school in the coming week. Children will have the opportunity to discuss any problems they encountered, as well as share their triumphs and successes. Children and teachers will have time to read stories and sing songs together.
